چکیده

This paper analyzes the routing of agricultural freight from the fields to the elevators. A number of optimization models are built to analyze the effects of truck type restrictions in the truck mix on the overall system cost of delivering from fields to elevators. The models account for both the selection of truck type and load type for deliveries while respecting the load restrictions imposed on the highway network. The estimated origin-destination matrix is assigned on the highway network using a stochastic model. The stochastic model is designed to take into account the different behavior of truck traffic as opposed to passenger vehicle traffic and is implemented using simulation. The models developed here are tested on the highway network of North Dakota. DOI: 10.4018/978-1-4666-2925-7.ch015

Urban Freight Truck Routing under Stochastic Congestion and Emission Considerations

Freight trucks are known to be a major source of air pollutants as well as greenhouse gas emissions in U.S. metropolitan areas, and they have significant effects on air quality and global climate change. Emissions from freight trucks during their deliveries should be considered by the trucking service sector when they make routing decisions. This study proposes a model that incorporates total d...

Modeling the Impact of Technological Changes on Urban Commercial Trips by Commercial Activity Routing Type

An array of noteworthy developments in logistics practice has taken place without an equivalent and comprehensive development in urban freight transportation modeling. Part of the problem is the lack of deep understanding of the workings of distribution processes in relation to the generation of truck traffic. In this paper it is emphasized the role and importance that distribution network size...

A Bi-Objective Green Truck Routing and Scheduling Problem in a Cross Dock with the Learning Effect

We present a bi-objective model for a green truck scheduling and routing problem at a cross-docking system. This model determines three key decisions at the cross dock: (1) defining a sequence and schedule of inbound trucks at the receiving door, (2) specifying a sequence and a schedule of outbound trucks at the shipping door, and (3) determining the routes of the outbound truck while serving c...

- 1 - Routing Methods for Twin - Trailer Trucks by Jonathan

This thesis presents a body of initial work on a class of routing problems that resemble classical vehicle routing problems (VRP's), but differ in a few key aspects. A particular subset of this class arises in the regional-level operation of an LTL (Less than TruckLoad) truck line using twin-trailer combinations. Other problems in the class, covered in much less detail, may be useful in plannin...
